Winter Art Camp: The Magic of Art

Spread the magic of art by creating artwork to give to family and friends! Be inspired by the paintings of Norma Roth, the artifacts in the Ancient Americas Collection, and the variety of paintings, sculptures, prints, and photographs that make up the OMA permanent collection. Create using textures, colors, shapes, and more, as you discover the magic of art!  Winter Art Camp is open to students in grades 1-5.

Recycle unexpected materials into something new, different, and more dynamic than the original (upcycling). Explore artists who create with recyclables including Nick Cave and John Chamberlain. Upcycle placemats, t-shirts, and other fabrics into pencil pouches and tote bags!

Spend the day appreciating the warm and cozy drink hot cocoa! Create a mixed media cup of hot cocoa on canvas board using paper, watercolor, and oil pastel. Design winter scenes on a mug to enjoy later filled with a tasty beverage.

Snowy Day
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Learn about the white fluffy substance that falls from the sky and covers the land when it gets really cold. Be inspired by paintings that depict snow, such as West Shore Terminal by Leon Kroll, and create your own snowy day scenes. Use cotton balls, popsicle sticks, paint, and more to make snowflakes, snowmen, and animals that enjoy the snow!

Travel back in time to the ancient Americas! View artifacts from North, Central, and South America and learn what life was like in these regions thousands of years ago. Make beaded works of art while also using air-dry clay to create an ancient figure or utilitarian object.

Explore the pattern and decorative artwork of Norma Canelas Roth. Create works of art that showcase texture and express emotion. Use assorted fabrics, paper, and paint to create mixed media works of art that come alive with color and shape.

Natural Designs
Be inspired by the colors, shapes, and patterns that can be found in nature. Spend part of the day outside in Miriam’s Garden sketching and collecting natural elements to create with in the studio. Make mixed media works of art using paint, oil pastels, leaves, twigs, and more!

A Florida Winter
Grab your sweaters and sunglasses as we celebrate winter in the sunshine state! Paint a festive palm tree, create a sunny window hanger, and upcycle materials to create a tropical animal.

Extended Day:
Early drop off (beginning at 8:00am): $5 per child, per day Late pick up (until 5:15pm): $5 per child, per day (an additional $1 per minute charge will be incurred for pick up later than 5:15pm).

Refunds:
Refunds are given less a $25 handling fee. Written notice two weeks prior to the class is required. No refunds are made after the classes have started.
