Inner Lhamo Waterfall
Pat Steir
Part of the Contemporary Art Collection
"Inner Lhamo Waterfall' suggests a reference to the sacred Tibetan lake, Lahmo Latso. This painting reflects the artist’s interest in the spontaneous, gestural paintings of Asian art and modern abstract painting. Working with a large brush loaded with paint, Pat Steir makes only a few quick strokes on the canvas and then allows the paint to flow undirected. About her process she says; “It’s chance within limitations. I decide the colors and make simple divisions to the canvas, and then basically the pouring of the paint paints the painting.”
