TOUR DU JOUR: FIELD TRIPS BASED ON TEMPORARY EXHIBITIONS
Edward Steichen: In Exaltation of Flowers
September 20, 2019 - January 17, 2020
Get a double dose of art through this special joint-tour of the OMA and the Mennello Museum of American Art. Students will visit both institutions to experience the work of this twentieth-century master artist. Edward Steichen’s stunning black and white photographs are portraits of important luminaries of his day: actors, writers, dancers, and singers. His largescale gold-leaf mural painting tells the story of his friends and their symbolic floral counterparts. This tour will introduce students to early photographic techniques, inspire discussion of Steichen’s circle of creatives and muses, and prompt comparisons between painting and photography. Accommodates two classes.

Living Color: The Art of the Highwaymen
February 4 - May 8, 2020

Students will participate in hands on activities to discover what life was like for these artists from the 1950s through the 1980s, and how they depicted brilliant Florida landscape scenes that became iconic visions of the State’s natural environment. Accommodates 3 classes.
