Art in the Afternoon

Unleash your creativity with an afternoon of art! Students will have the opportunity to engage with authentic works of art in the museum, in addition to creating unique pieces in the studio. Students will explore the elements and principles of design, all while further developing their artistic talents. Ideal for ages 7-13!

Take a stroll through the galleries and view OMA treasures such as the Chihuly Tower and the Art of the Ancient Americas Collection. Create a mixed media collage on canvas incorporating OMA imagery that expresses your love of the museum.

Journey into the galleries to see how many works of art you can find that showcase love. Learn about Robert Indiana and his many sculptures, paintings, and prints that incorporate the word, LOVE. DADA Collage
Ever picture the Mona Lisa with a mustache? A bicycle wheel mounted on a stool? This is the madness of DADA, an early 20th century artistic movement that was all about being silly and poking fun at the art world! Learn more about artwork in the DADA style by viewing works such as Dada Poem Wedding Dress by Lesley Dill and All American Sunset by Jerry N. Uelsmann. Be inspired to create a DADA collage using poster board, magazines, markers, and more!

Landscape Painting
BRUSH up on your painting skills! View contemporary and traditional works of art that feature a landscape scene such as Moving Stillness, Mount Rainier by Bill Viola and The Hudson River at Hyde Park, New York by Johann Herman Carmiencke. Learn how to compose and paint a landscape scene to showcase foreground, middle ground, and background.

The Art of Photography
Learn about the history of photography as you view artwork by well-known photographers like Margaret Bourke-White, Clyde Butcher, and Andreas Feininger. Capture things big and small using a digital camera! Pick your favorites to print and incorporate them into a collage (cameras provided).
REFUND POLICY
Full refunds will be provided if a class does not meet minimum enrollment and is cancelled. A refund equal to half of tuition paid will be provided for cancellations made up to 7 days prior to the first day of the class. No refunds, no exceptions, will be made if the cancellation is made less than 7 days prior to a class. Refund requests must be made in writing and should be emailed to education@omart.org.
