Artists & Love
By David Matteson
How may love inspire an artist? Many Western artists of historical significance depicted the euphoria and passion commonly associated with romance, while modern and contemporary artists have explored other complex dimensions of love. This presentation will survey works by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Auguste Rodin, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, and Yayoi Kusama, concluding with a discussion of relevant works from the Museum’s collection.
