March 10: Jillian Marie Browning, Artist

Jillian Marie Browning uses traditional and historic photographic processes in their interdisciplinary practice to explore the concept of feminine identity through the lens of the contemporary black experience. In this presentation, Jillian will speak about their participation in the (Re)Stock Image Collection project and the importance of not only the representation of black people but the proper photographic depiction of them and how that relates to their artistic practice. Jillian is an interdisciplinary artist pursuing themes of feminism, identity, and the contemporary black experience. Born in Ocala, Florida they received a Bachelor of Science degree in Photography from the University of Central Florida in 2012 and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from Florida State University in 2015. They have had their work shown nationally as well as been included in the permanent collection of the Center for Photography at Woodstock and the University of Maryland’s David C. Driskell Center For The Study of Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and the African Diaspora. They currently work for The School of Art and Art History at the University of Florida.

Join us for a flashback to a fascinating time when many of Orlando's signature buildings rose and its arts and culture blossomed.

February 14: Eros and Anteros: The Farnese Gallery Ceiling
presented by Dr. Ilenia Colón Mendoza, Professor of Art History, UCF

Join Dr. Ilenia Colón Mendoza on Valentine’s Day as she discusses the development of the Farnese Gallery ceiling known as The Loves of the Gods. This monumental fresco, located in Rome, depicts the stories of various mythological couples. Learn how its innovative theme and illusionistic techniques paved the way for later 17th-century painted ceilings.

March 13: Prints and the Collaborative Spirit
presented by Theo Lotz, Director of Flying Horse Editions, UCF

The director of UCF’s Flying Horse Editions will discuss the works in the museum’s collection, and the collaborative process between contemporary artists and trained printmaking artisans. Flying Horse Editions is a collaborative research studio for visual artists at the University of Central Florida.

April 17: Bridging the Gap: Art, Technology, and Museum Practice
presented by Keidra Daniels Navaroli, Independent Curator and McKnight Doctoral Fellow, UCF

Keidra Daniels Navaroli, independent curator and McKnight Doctoral Fellow at the University of Central Florida, will discuss art history’s increasing reliance on digital resources. Drawing from over fifteen years of museum experience, Keidra will share her approaches to curation in Central Florida and highlight the various ways in which the region is poised for impactful and innovative research.
