Arts Society: Famous and Fabulous - December

December 11, 2018 @ 10:30am to December 11, 2018 @ 12:00pm

Council of 101 Meeting Rooms A, B & C

Select Tuesdays / 10:30am - 12pm

Join us for a thought-provoking and lively lecture series: Famous and Fabulous European Art, presented by art educator Susan Rosoff. Each program begins with a light brunch followed by a lecture and concludes with an exclusive tour of the galleries to discuss related artwork.

This year European artists will take center stage. Leonardo’s Mona Lisa may be the most famous painting in the world, but the woman herself has remained a mystery. Scholars are now uncovering bits of information about who she was, just as they are determining the identity of Gainsborough’s Blue Boy. Discover why Rembrandt was so unpopular after he painted Night Watch and why the U.S. government fought a court case over Brancusi’s Bird in Flight. Monet didn’t just paint water lilies, he was obsessed with them! And both Tracy Emin and Damien Hirst broke the “rules” of art with a messy bed and a tiger shark. In this popular lecture series led by Susan Rosoff, you’ll learn all this and more about many of Europe’s most iconic works of art.
