Finding Oneself Portrait Pop-Up

Starts May 6, 2023 @ 12:00pm , Ends May 27, 2023 @ 4:00pm

Findingoneself

David Lawrence is an Orlando-based portrait photographer. His work exists to celebrate people and the stories they bring. He began taking photos in 2011 after his cousin Dena gifted him a Pentax K1000 film camera.

Finding Oneself is an ongoing project at the Orlando Museum of Art happening concurrently to The Outwin exhibition organized by the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. Like all of Lawrence’s work, it exists to bring people peace and joy through truly “meeting themselves.”

In every image, people and their stories are at the center; no one is ever excluded. Gender identity, disabilities, scars, muscles, skinny, young, old: all have a place at the table and are equally important.

How this pop-up works:

While visiting this pop-up, you will be invited to sit for a portrait and spend some time “meeting yourself” through a journal activity.

The portrait and words you share will then be scanned and projected onto the wall for other visitors to see. You will then be handed back your photo to take home with you.

The belief is simple; When we meet and authentically embrace ourselves, it also empowers others to do the same. So, take a break,  sit for a photo, meet yourself, and leave empowered, knowing that your story matters and impacts others in the world.

The suggested donation for each photo is $10 - $50. 15% of proceeds will be donated to OMA.
