October 12: The Gilded Age by Mark Twain and Charles Dudley Warner
This novel satirizes Washington politics and the wild speculation schemes that proliferated across the nation after the Civil War.
December 14: The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton
This novel won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction and is noted for the author's attention to detail and its accurate portrayal of how the Gilded Age upper class lived. It questions the assumptions and morals of 1870s New York society and social tragedies that occurred as a result.
January 25: Vanderbilt: The Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty by Anderson Cooper and Katherine Howe
This best-selling non-fiction story chronicles the rise and fall of a legendary American dynasty - the Vanderbilts. CNN anchor and journalist Anderson Cooper and historian and novelist Katherine Howe vividly recount the history of this remarkable family.
