La CinOMAtheque is a collaboration between OMA and the Enzian, bringing free showings of art films to our community. These showings take place on Access for All, and are free to the public.
Join us Thursday, February 19, 6pm in OMA’s auditorium for a screening of Rize, directed by David LaChapelle.
Rize (2005), directed by legendary photographer and filmmaker David LaChapelle, is a raw, electrifying documentary that dives into the birth of two explosive Los Angeles dance movements: clowning and krumping. Set in South Central L.A., the film follows dancers Tommy the Clown, Lil’ C, and Miss Prissy as they transform street dance into a powerful outlet for joy, rage, and survival, and a tool for self-expression, community, and resistance in neighborhoods shaped by violence and inequality. Blending high-energy battle footage with intimate interviews and a genre-spanning soundtrack, Rize captures how movement becomes a lifeline and a revolution on the streets of Los Angeles.
