Sketching in the Galleries

Drop in for a relaxed sketching session surrounded by inspiring artwork, with supplies provided and no preregistration required.

Sketching in the Galleries Overview

Sketching in the Galleries invites visitors to slow down and draw directly from the art on view. This casual, drop-in program provides a calm, creative setting to practice observation and mark-making at your own pace. Whether you are brand new to drawing or looking to keep your skills sharp, you will find a welcoming space to explore line, shape, and composition in the galleries. Basic, gallery-appropriate supplies are provided, and you are welcome to bring a small sketchbook.

Who It’s For:

  • Visitors of all ages who are inspired by exhibitions to practice drawing
  • Museum visitors seeking a creative activity connected to current exhibitions
  • Beginners and experienced artists who enjoy sketching from life

What Happens During a Typical Session: 

Arrive anytime during the two-hour window, pick up sketching materials, and choose a gallery space that inspires you. Stay for a few minutes or the full session, then revisit the works you sketched to compare details and progress.

What’s Included: 

  • Drawing pencils, erasers, and paper available to use on site
  • Access to designated gallery areas for seated sketching
