Summer Art Camps: Grades 1-2

These programs are designed to expose students to a broad range of ideas and art-making experiences through theme-based classes. The emphasis is on fun!  Weeklong, full-day or half-day sessions are available. Projects will be different in morning and afternoon sessions.

Beach Bash!

Feel the ocean breeze and the warmth of the sun as we imagine ourselves at the beach. Paint, print, and collage beachy images, such as an enchanting sunset or a peaceful ocean shore. Create a tie-dyed beach t-shirt, under the sea prints, as well as a summer scrapbook to share your beach bash vacation with family and friends! Each student should bring a washed white cotton t-shirt clearly marked with his or her name.

Chihuligans!

Become a “Chihuligan,” as you spend the week learning about the glass sculpture of Dale Chihuly and other artists who work in glass while painting, printing, and sculpting! Light and color are the focus of this week as you create your own Chihuly-inspired masterpieces.

JUNE 6-10

Crazed for Clay - SOLD OUT

There is nothing like hand-building with clay to develop fine motor skills! Create functional three-dimensional art like vessels, sculpture, and more, using pinch, coil, model, and slab methods. Learn to burnish and glaze finished pieces, which will be kiln fired. Some pieces might be glazed and fired for pickup at a later date. (Firing fee: $10)

Animals in Art - SOLD OUT!

Let your imagination “run wild” as you create a variety of animals, both two-and three-dimensional! Search through the galleries and discover the many ways in which animals have been represented in art. Bring your favorite animals to life using air dry clay, fun fibers, folded paper, paint, and more.

JUNE 13-17

Mini Masters - SOLD OUT!

Release your inner artist as you create works of art in the style of the great masters, exploring different art movements and artists each day! Try your hand at Cubism in the style of Pablo Picasso, while also creating expressionistic splatters inspired by Jackson Pollock.

JUNE 20-24

The Wonder of Color - 1 SPOT LEFT!

Do you ever “see red” or “feel blue?” Discover the power of color this week as you explore the color wheel and color relationships. Learn how to create pigments, while also experimenting with warm and cool colors to find out how color creates a mood. Experience the importance of color when creating art!

JUNE 27-JULY 1

Florida Fun! - SOLD OUT!

Explore the Sunshine State and all that it has to offer! Create artwork using a variety of mediums to showcase iconic features of Florida. Paint the swampy Everglades or the vibrant beaches and use recycled materials to create your favorite Florida creature!

Art All Around - SOLD OUT!
1:00pm - 4:00pm

From everyday materials such as yarn and bottle caps to watercolor and acrylic paint, art can be created in so many ways.  Explore art around us as we reuse, repurpose, and recycle ordinary things into extraordinary works of art!

Time Travelers

Go back in time to explore art of the past, from prehistoric cave paintings to the landscapes of the French Impressionists. Stop in ancient Egypt, Renaissance Italy, and other hotspots of artistic achievement along the way!

The Art of Peace - 1 SPOT LEFT!

Make new friends this week as you explore printmaking, painting, hand-building in clay, and other techniques to create t-shirts, jewelry, prints, paintings, and sculpture that convey messages of camaraderie and cooperation. Each student should bring a washed white cotton t-shirt clearly marked with his or her name.

JULY 18-22

Adventures with Street Art - SOLD OUT!
1:00pm - 4:00pm

Join us for an adventure with street art! Make your own spray paint, stencil a design on a t-shirt, and create an installation using recycled materials. Learn about street artists such as the mysterious Banksy, while drawing images that you’d want to make into a public mural. Each student should bring a washed white cotton t-shirt clearly marked with his or her name. Materials fee: $10

JULY 25-29

Up, Up, and Away! - SOLD OUT!
1:00pm - 4:00pm

Soar up, up, and away as you create artwork meant for the sky! Birds, planes, and hot air balloons are just some of the subjects you’ll explore making using a variety of materials. Design two-and three-dimensional works of art that will take you to new heights!

Books, Books, Books! - SOLD OUT!

Be inspired by the brilliant authors and illustrators of some of your favorite picture books! Expand your imagination, art skills, creativity, and self-expression. Write your own stories, create illustrations using a variety of media, and learn simple bookbinding techniques to create unique storybooks!

Design and build your own miniature version of the Orlando Museum of Art! Fill your museum with replicas of your favorite works of art using a cardboard, paper, model magic, and more.

Registration Information

Registrations are accepted on a space-available basis prior to the first day of class. The Orlando Museum of Art reserves the right to cancel any session that does not meet the minimum enrollment (10 students).  Full payment is required before your child’s registration will be processed (we cannot hold a space for your child until we receive full payment). Sibling/Group Discount
Enroll more than one child the same week of sessions and receive a $10/week discount for each additional child enrolled.  Discount only applies for children registered at the same time. Discount unavailable to process through online registration.
