Seeking Interns for the 2018 Fall Term

Hours
Must be available for the following time slots and at least two days a week:
10:00am-1:00pm or 1:00-4:00pm

Salary
Academic credit in lieu of compensation

General Description
Provide support for OMA’s Marketing Department in order to meet the Museum’s goals and objectives. The Marketing and Communications Intern will be conducting marketing research, assisting with public and media relations and implementing promotions/communications for Museum events and exhibitions.

Specific Tasks:

Marketing

  • Work with the Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations Manager on any related projects
  • Marketing research: including but not limited to trends, campaigns and analytics monitoring to adjust marketing approach
  • Assist Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations Manager on finding more ways to better reach diverse audiences
  • Create, edit or assist the Graphic Designer in the production of the weekly and monthly newsletters using MailChimp
  • Assist with proof reading


Public Relations/Communications

  • Manage a social media calendar by scheduling posts with guidance from the Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations Manager
  • Respond to communications on social marketing platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and any new social media tools as needed
  • Occasionally assist with museum press releases, press kits and media alerts
  • Provide assistance to the media as requested by the Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations Manager
  • Submit calendar of events listings to the media via monthly e-mail communications and submit via online forms for any and all OMA programming
  • Record the OMA’s media exposure


Photography

  • Assist Graphic Designer in creating digital content for social media usage
  • Stage photographs for event promotional usage
  • Photograph content for the Museum's social media platforms - must have a keen eye for composition, editing and content quality


Other

  • Distribute flyers/posters for OMA’s programs as needed
  • Attend public/social functions to promote the OMA as needed
  • Other duties as may be assigned
     

Academic and Business Requirements:
Interested candidates must have an interest or background in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Communications or the arts! Candidates must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills while exhibiting a high attention to detail. Additionally, candidates must have the ability to take initiative, work independently and work in a deadline sensitive environment. Applicants must have a working knowledge of Email, Internet, Microsoft Word and Excel. Any interns selected for the program must use their own laptops through the duration of the internship. OMA cannot provide the necessary hardware/software. Experience in drafting press releases is highly preferred. Enthusiastic and energetic candidates will be given substantial consideration.
