Operations Assistant

Job Description

Hours:                      Full Time

Benefits:                  Group health and access to a cafeteria plan after two months employment.  Access to 401(k) after two months employment. Seven paid holidays per year. Reports to:             Chief of Operations

Classification Under Wage and Regulations: Non-exempt

General Description:

Responsible for the care and security of the building and its contents, evening and weekends, when the Museum is open to the public for special events, rentals, in-house activities, lectures, etc.

Specific Tasks:

1. Open and close the building. 

2. Assist in maintaining the highest level of safety and security at all times.

3. Monitor and maintain proper temperature and humidity control in the building and advise Chief of Operations of variations or problems in performance.

4. Set up, and take down chairs, tables, pedestals, etc. for all meetings, receptions and other activities.

5. Set up, take down and operate audio-visual equipment including, but not limited to, sound systems, slide, video and overhead projectors, microphones, etc.

6. At the end of an event or at closings, be sure the areas used are clean, put away any tables, chairs or other equipment used, so the facility is ready for the same/next day event or activity.

7.  As approved by the Chief of Operations, perform minor building repairs, including painting, light bulb replacement, electrical, plumbing, etc.

8. Perform cleaning projects, including carpet cleaning, window washing, pressure washing, daily cleaning of all public entrances and educational areas, but only when not responsible for security.

9.  Assist staff and volunteers during special events.

10. Other duties as may be assigned.

Academic and Business Requirements:

Minimum: High school graduate. Trade school graduate and/or Associates Degree preferred – or related experience equivalent. One year related experience. 

Skills Required:

1. Climbing ladders, heavy moving and lifting required at times.

2. Basic knowledge in operation and repair of air conditioning, heating and humidity                                                                         control, electrical and audio-visual equipment.

3. Good telephone etiquette.

4. Basic computer skills and text messaging.

5.  Proficient with the use of wood shop equipment. Proficient in the use of scissor lifts, fork lifts, and related heavy equipment.

6. Must have CPR certification.

Temperament:

Enjoys working in an art museum environment. A self-starter, calm and patient with the ability to work well under pressure. Relates well with people of various socio-economic backgrounds in a business of quasi-social atmosphere. Projects a pleasant personality, confidence and efficiency while dealing with people in person. Professional demeanor and appearance. Uniform required.
