The Orlando Museum of Art proudly displays a rich and varied assortment of permanent collections, each offering a different cultural view of artistic achievements. Each collection speaks for itself, from captivating traditional landscapes and poignant social narratives to complex and beautiful ancient artifacts and gold ornaments.
OMA remains one of Orlando’s most dynamic and progressive cultural institutions. Our collecting circles, currently led by Coralie Claeysen-Gleyzon, have thoughtfully assembled various collections to showcase art that has engaged and inspired our community over the years.
The American Art Collection offers a vivid journey through the 19th and 20th centuries, emphasizing rural life, urbanization, and social change. Its pieces include paintings by George Inness and Georgia O’Keeffe, sculptures by Daniel Ridgeway Gould and Frederick MacMonnies, and photography by Ansel Adams and Margaret Bourke-White.
OMA’s African Art Collection compels viewers to discover the dynamic visual language used in African art to convey ideas ranging from government rank and status to romantic love and cultural values. These thoughtfully curated objects provide a profound insight into Africa’s diverse cultures, traditions, family values, and ideals. The collection is currently viewable by request only.
The Art of the Ancient Americas Collection highlights over 3,000 years of artistic achievements from indigenous nations across North, Central, and South America. Expertly crafted objects — including ceramics, inlaid wood, carved jade, and intricate ornaments — reveal the daily lives, spiritual beliefs, and socio-political histories of diverse societies, including the Ancestral Pueblo, Maya, Inka (Inca), Nasca, and Moche.
OMA’s Contemporary Art Collection features emerging and established international artists, including significant works by figures like Philip Pearlstein, Robert Rauschenberg, and Kerry James Marshall. This permanent exhibition has dramatically expanded over the last 50 years, and recent enhancements include the Florida Prize and Cottrell-Lovett collections.
Our Contemporary American Graphics Collection, one of Florida’s most comprehensive, includes over 460 prints by major artists like Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns in styles such as Pop, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, Photorealism, and Neo-Expressionism. It documents the evolution of American art since the 1960s. It has grown through community support and the Corporate Lease Program, making these works accessible in the public domain throughout Central Florida.
Community-supported acquisitions of OMA’s diverse collections, which span painting, sculpture, photography, and ethnographic artifacts, continually enrich and enhance our core collections of American, Ancient American, and African art. Recent acquisition efforts have focused on modern and contemporary art, and the community funds these efforts through memberships and donations.
In addition to our permanent collections, OMA hosts an array of rotating exhibitions that showcase art from around the world. Explore our current exhibitions, preview upcoming shows, and attend special events throughout the year to stay engaged with OMA’s latest contemporary and historical art.
