An ongoing single-work exhibition
In September 2025, the Orlando Museum of Art’s Curatorial Department invited all local artists of Hispanic or Latino Heritage to engage with the museum’s Art of the Ancient Americas Collection on view in this gallery, through the lens of personal heritage, ancestral knowledge, and cultural continuity.
Artists were encouraged to reflect on how traditional Ancient American motifs live on in their work, and what inherited practices or stories have shaped their own creative process. Storytelling, ritual, craft, and memory can reconnect us to the sacred and symbolic power that the objects in this collection once held, and contemporary practices can help reclaim or reframe their meaning for today’s world.
Selected artists have the opportunity to exhibit one contemporary artwork alongside the museum’s Collection for a month, with one or two new artists being presented each month. The exhibition helps to create a fresh dialogue and new perspectives on the art of the region, and these contemporary living artists’ work becomes a bridge between time periods and between cultures.
