To ensure marriage or indicate a woman’s readiness for marriage, young Ndeble women often wear or carry dolls like this one. A woman may wear the doll openly indicating to her community that she wants to insure her future fertility. If a young woman wears the doll secretly, this means the woman is looking for a husband.
