Part of the Contemporary American Graphics Collection
In this hand-colored lithograph, Jane Hammond created her own constellations of acrobats, dolphins, animals and mythological characters drawn from the recurring bank of 276 images that she uses repeatedly. The actual constellations, which are from star maps, have been altered to fit the double-orb of the night sky. The double-orb background is one found frequently on antique maps. Twinkling stars appear though tiny holes Hammond punched in the paper. The silver Mylar background makes them appear to shine.
