Art Adventures

Select Fridays 9:30am -11am

Select Sundays 2pm-3:30pm

Friday and Sunday classes each month are the same.

Come on a new adventure every month at OMA! Each workshop features a gallery experience followed by a hands-on art activity in the studio. Monthly workshop themes vary, with the same workshop offered twice a month on select Fridays and Sundays for children of all ages and their favorite grownup!

Come see how music and art connect! View artwork featuring famous jazz musicians, such as Ray Charles, John Coltrane, and Melba Doretta Liston in the Our Voice: Celebrating the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards. Listen to a story read by a museum educator, and in the studio create your own painting that showcases the rhythm and movement of music!

Visit the galleries and explore the many illustrations created using watercolor in the exhibition Our Voice: Celebrating the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Awards. Hear the story, “Mother Crocodile” and be inspired by the watercolor illustrations of John Steptoe. In the studio, create 3-D crocodile paintings and hats while learning resist and masking techniques! We hope to see you in a while…crocodile!

Discover how the painter and photographer, Edward Steichen, created large-scale murals of his friends and their floral counterparts. In the galleries, view Steichen’s murals and explore his use of fashion and flowers. Create flower crowns, flower vases, and your own flower mural to take home and display!

Explore the vessels, figurines, and pottery in Art of the Ancient Americas Collection! Roll, pinch, and create using clay to build your own unique vessel. Tell a story with your creation by adding colored slips and underglaze paints. Each piece will be kiln fired and ready for pick-up on Friday, December 20, 2019.
