Join us for a fun night of art! Bring a date or come alone and meet new friends! Each exciting evening features a different theme. Work alongside an art teacher to create your own masterpiece! Class price includes all materials.

September 9:  The Art of the Fold: Accordion Books with Lauren Hill

Get creative with paper folding and design as we make an original accordion-style art book, complete with a custom cover! Accordion books are made from a single long strip or joined pieces of folded paper, creating pages that unfold in an unexpected and playful way. We’ll explore different ways to personalize your book, from adding fold-out pages and cutting designs into the paper to creating abstract patterns and backgrounds. Once finished, your accordion book can become an art book, journal, sketchbook, or anything else your imagination dreams up!

 October 14: Day of the Dead – Dia de los Muertos – at OMA! with Gabriela Hernandez

Join Florida artist, Gabriela Hernandez at OMA for vibrant evening of calavera {skull} painting! Learn about this joyful celebration of life at Art Night Out and decorate a ceramic calavera to take home!

November 4:  Red, White & Gobble: The Turkey That Almost Was with Xavier Moss

What if America gobbled instead of screeched? Just weeks before Thanksgiving, join artist and biological illustrator Xavier Moss at the Orlando Museum of Art to explore the strange natural history of the wild turkey—and the famous story of Benjamin Franklin preferring it to the bald eagle. From iridescent feathers and bizarre snoods to gobbles, courtship displays, and a remarkable comeback from near disappearance, discover why there’s much more to this familiar bird than what lands on the dinner table. Then, imagine an alternate America where the turkey became the ultimate symbol of freedom, by creating your own turkey-inspired national artwork.

December 9: Away in a Menagerie: The Natural History of the Nativity with Xavier Moss

The first Christmas may have been anything but a silent night.  Join artist and biological illustrator Xavier Moss at the Orlando Museum of Art to explore the wild side of one of the world’s most familiar scenes: the Nativity. Which animals actually appear in the biblical accounts? Which wandered into the manger centuries later through art and tradition? And what might have really been crawling, flying, grazing, and growing around ancient Bethlehem?

Explore how animals and nature became woven into the widely-seen picture of Christmas, then create your own nature-inspired Nativity artwork—reimagining the familiar scene as a living habitat filled with feathers, fur, dust, noise, and life. Step away from the silent night and into the menagerie.
