January 15:  The Art of Painting Velazquez’s Las Meninas presented by Dr. Ilenia Colon Mendoza, professor of Art History, UCF

Join Dr. Ilenia Colón Mendoza as she discusses Velázquez’s masterpiece, Las Meninas (1656), and its connection with Pacheco’s Art of Painting (1649). Learn about all the theories surrounding this enigmatic work, how fits into Velázquez’s oeuvre, and his pursuit of knighthood.

February 20: An Introduction to Art Conservation! presented by Stephanie Conforti, a local paintings conservator with over 30 years of experience in the field.

Stephanie Conforti, a local paintings conservator with over 30 years of experience in the field, will discuss the role of fine art conservation and its importance in collection management. Highlighting past treatments, she will introduce the various methodologies used in each stage of the conservation process and how contemporary art presents new challenges.

March 20: Portraits presented by Juan David Tena

Juan David Tena is a Colombian-Spanish humanitarian photographer and photojournalist known for documenting Indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities along Colombia’s Pacific coast. Now based in Orlando, Florida, Tena continues his freelance work, contributing to media such as Orlando Sentinel and La Prensa, capturing powerful stories from diverse communities.

April 17: The Cosmic Perspective presented by Frank Kane, President of the Central Florida Astronomical Society

Frank Kane, President of the Central Florida Astronomical Society, will examine the intersection of art and astronomy through the lens of CFAS members. We’ll talk about the special considerations and techniques behind “nightscape” photography, and more abstract artistic pieces inspired by the night sky.
