OMA Book Club Overview

The OMA Book Club invites readers to explore the intersection of literature and art through thoughtfully selected books connected to art history. Adventures in the Louvre:  How to Fall in Love with the World’s Greatest Museum by Elaine Sciolino

Elaine Sciolino was the former New York Times Paris bureau chief and she demystifies one of the most famous museums in the world.

As an investigative journalist, she explores artworks – both famous and overlooked – and some of the people who are the museum’s lifeblood.  It’s part travelogue, part history and part memoir. Her story is totally engrossing.

Metropolitan Stories by Catherine Coulson

Catherine Coulson worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for 25 years.

In a series of vignettes, she writes about the behind the scenes world of the Met and  the powerful voices of the art itself.  It’s a short novel that bursts with wit and imagination.

The Hare with the Amber Eyes: A Hidden Inheritance by Edmund de Waal

Edmund de Waal, a world-famous ceramist, inherited a collection of 264 netsuke, tiny Japanese wood and ivory carvings. He wanted to know who had touched and held them. Part detective story and memoir, his book is marvelously absorbing.
