Life with Picasso by Françoise Gilot and Carlton Lake
Françoise Gilot was the only woman to leave Pablo Picasso. Picasso filed three lawsuits to try and block this book’s publication in which Gilot gives an intimate portrait of her friendship, love affair, and ten year relationship with him. Gilot was one of Picasso’s muses but also very much her own woman, determined to make herself into the remarkable painter she did indeed become.

The Lost Notebook of Édouard Manet by Maureen Gibbon
In this historical novel set at the end of Manet’s life, the author gives readers a look at what’s in Manet’s mind during the last three years of his. Suffering with syphilis and in great pain, he completes The Bar at the Folies Bergere. The compelling book reveals an understanding of Manet’s place in time and art in a way that makes you hardly believe it’s fiction.
