From natural pigments to objects that make sound, create as you explore how art connects to the natural world. Be inspired by patterns in nature and learn how other cultures use materials from the Earth to create artwork and everyday objects.
JUNE 2-6
9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. The Wonder of Color
Do you ever “see red” or “feel blue?” Discover the power of color this week as you explore the color wheel and color relationships. Learn how to create pigments, while also experimenting with warm and cool colors to find out how color can reflect mood. Experience the importance of color when creating art!
JUNE 9-13
9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. Mini Masters
Release your inner artist as you create works of art in the style of the great masters, exploring different art movements and artists each day! Try your hand at Cubism in the style of Pablo Picasso, while also making expressionistic creations inspired by Wassily Kandinsky.
JUNE 16-20
MORNING SESSION
9 a.m.-noon Animals in Art
Let your imagination “run wild” as you create a variety of animals, both two- and three-dimensional! Search through the galleries and discover the many ways in which animals have been represented in art. Bring your favorite animals to life using air dry clay, fun fibers, folded paper, paint, and more.
AFTERNOON SESSION
1-4 p.m. Watercolor Wonders
Spend the week creating with watercolor! Learn watercolor techniques such as washes, dry brush, and wet-in-wet. Discover ways to create dynamic watercolor designs by using a sponge, masking tape, and salt!
JUNE 23-27
9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. Chihuligans!
Become a “Chihuligan,” as you spend the week learning about the glass sculpture of Dale Chihuly and other artists who work in glass while painting, printing, and sculpting! Light and color are the focus of this week as you create your own Chihuly-inspired masterpieces.
JUNE 30-JULY 3* (no class JULY 4)
9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. World Travelers
Pack your bags and come on an art adventure! Travel across continents and be inspired by different cultures to create unique art as you use your imagination to visit places such as China, Italy, and Mexico. Learn about new places, spaces, and faces!
JULY 7-11
9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. Art All Around
From everyday materials such as yarn and bottle caps to watercolor and acrylic paint, art can be created in so many ways. Explore art around us as we reuse, repurpose, and recycle ordinary things into extraordinary works of art!
JULY 14-18
9 a.m.-noon Fun with Folk Art
Learn about American folk art as you create a paper quilt based on family, a landscape painting using unexpected materials, an abstract textile design, and more! Spend the week using both traditional art materials (paint, pencil, etc.) and found objects while exploring personal connections folk artists have with their art.
1-4 p.m. Sunshine State of Mind
Explore the Sunshine State and all that it has to offer! Create artwork using a variety of mediums to showcase iconic features of Florida. Paint the swampy Everglades or the vibrant beaches and use recycled materials to create your favorite Florida creature!
JULY 21-25
9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. Beach Bash!
Feel the ocean breeze and the warmth of the sun as you imagine yourself at the beach. Paint, print, and collage beachy images, such as an enchanting sunset or a peaceful ocean shore. Create a tie-dyed beach t-shirt, under the sea prints, as well as a summer scrapbook to share your beach bash vacation with family and friends! Each student should bring a washed white cotton t-shirt clearly marked with his or her name.
JULY 28-AUGUST 1
9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. Up, Up, and Away!
Soar up, up, and away as you create artwork meant for the sky! Birds, planes, and hot air balloons are just some of the subjects you’ll explore making using a variety of materials. Design two-and three-dimensional works of art that will take you to new heights!
AUGUST 4-8
9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. Art of the Story
Be inspired by the brilliant authors and illustrators of some of your favorite picture books! Expand your imagination, art skills, creativity, and self-expression. Write your own stories, create illustrations using a variety of media, and learn simple bookbinding techniques to create unique storybooks!
