This is wonderful to see our collection here. We’ve had a relationship with OMA since 2003, and we love what the museum does for the community and how much support the community gives to the museum as well. So we’re hoping that education will increase with this gift to the museum and that we can focus on things that are important in life.

00:37 Mr. Joseph Lovett

Our relationship with the Orlando Museum of Art is a gift to us. It’s just so wonderful be able to keep the collection together and to appreciate the enthusiasm that the museum and the Orlando community has for the artists that we’ve been involved with for so long.

Yes, when we meet artists we try to think about what the artist is going to be doing 10 years from now. We try to see the message the artist is trying to put out and we try to make a commitment to the artist for the time period that, that we think is appropriate for us to collect their work.

Art doesn’t take place in a vacuum. It takes place in the world, and the world has relationships.

01:27 Dr. James Cottrell

Some artists we’ve been collecting for 40 years and we still  like their work and like what they’re doing. They’ve changed to fit the times and some have and some haven’t. And so we’re trying to see what they actually contribute to us today.  And so we have some artists we have 20, 30 pieces of and we’ve collected them for 40 years. We get to know them and they become, not all of them become friends, but at least we have a relationship with them, with the artists.
