Associate Curator of Adult Programs and Outreach                                                                                                                                           

Position:                  Associate Curator of Adult Programs and Outreach

Hours:                      40 hours per week

Classification under Wage and Hour Regulations:  Exempt

General Description: 

Development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of engaging and innovative programs (both in-house and outreach) for diverse adult and college audiences, as well as for visitors with disabilities, and all related administrative aspects.

Specific Tasks:

  1. Conceptualization, implementation, supervision, evaluation, and budget management of an annual schedule of in-house and outreach educational programs and services including, but not limited to, gallery tours, film programs, lectures, panel discussions, art appreciation classes, studio workshops, educational travel, and special educational events for adult and college audiences.
  2. Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate community access programs for adults and youth with disabilities.
  3. Work collaboratively with education and curatorial staff to ensure the best visitor experience with the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, producing diverse strategies to meet needs of different audiences.               
  4. Build enduring community partnerships and engage in collaborative programs with organizations that serve diverse audiences.  
  5. Assist with docent training (the instruction and evaluation of new docents as well as the development of continuing education of existing docents).
  6. Assist with the development and implementation of Teacher Professional Development workshops.
  7. Develop themed tours for permanent and temporary exhibitions. Conduct inquiry-based tours for adults and students, and lectures and gallery talks as required or needed.
  8. Assist in development of promotional materials related to adult educational programming by working closely with the Curator of Education and the Marketing and Communications Manager.
  9. Assist in development of funding proposals related to educational programming by working closely with the Curator of Education and Director of Development.
  10. Manage processing and maintenance of registration records, handling of payments collected for these programs and compilation of information for billing, reports, and statistics related to attendance for adult and college programs.
  11. Assist education team with other programs as directed.
  12. Perform all other duties that may be assigned by the Curator of Education.

Academic and Business Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in art history, fine arts, museum education, museum studies or related field. 
  • 5-10 years museum experience developing and planning programs and managing individuals and projects. Background in fostering universal access for arts and cultural organizations.
  • Extensive knowledge of art history and studio art, current museum teaching strategies and learning theory, public speaking experience.
