Call for Hispanic and Latin American Artists

Frame 13

Echoes of the Ancient in Contemporary Voices:” An ongoing single-work exhibition

Get your work seen in the galleries at OMA!

Orlando Museum of Art’s Curatorial Department is seeking local artists of Hispanic Heritage/Latino backgrounds to participate in an exciting ongoing opportunity to engage with the museum’s Art of the Ancient Americas Collection

This call invites artists to re-engage with the Art of the Ancient Americas through the lens of personal heritage, ancestral knowledge, and cultural continuity. How can storytelling, ritual, craft, and memory reconnect us to the sacred or symbolic power the belongings in this collection once held? How do contemporary practices reclaim or reframe their meaning for today’s world?

Selected artists will have the chance to exhibit one contemporary artwork alongside the museum’s Art of the Ancient Americas Collection, creating fresh dialogue and new perspectives on the art of the region. Let your work be a bridge between time periods, between cultures, between what was and what could be.

To Apply, submit

  • One artwork (jpg, png, tiff files preferred)
  • short written statement (50–250 words max.) describing the work, your artistic practice and how it connects or responds to the Art of the Ancient Americas. In their short statement, artists are encouraged to reflect on:
    • o How traditional forms or motifs live on in your work
    • o What inherited practices or stories shape your creative process
    • o How your art might reawaken the cultural presence of ancient objects
  • Your social media handle / website

Email submissions to: collections@omart.org
