What’s Included in Your Birthday Party at OMA

A birthday party with us is built around making art together. We provide the studio space, the instructor, the art materials, and the guided museum experience, so the main activity is already planned for you.

Each party includes a 90-minute program in Studio III and select galleries. A museum instructor leads the group through hands-on art activities and a guided looking experience connected to the party theme. We also handle setup and cleanup for the program, while families bring the birthday cake, beverages, serving supplies, and any optional decorations.

The result is a party that feels active without being hectic: children get to move through the museum, look closely at art, make something themselves, and celebrate together in the studio.

You can choose from four established party themes, each with its own mix of storytelling, gallery exploration, and artmaking:

  • Art Detectives. Children follow clues through the galleries, look for artistic details, and use what they discover as inspiration for their studio project.
  • Art Dog. Inspired by Thacher Hurd’s picture book, this theme begins with the story and continues in the galleries as children look for colors, shapes, and lines. Back in the studio, they create an art dog sculpture or watercolor painting.
  • Pirate’s Treasure Hunt. Our most popular birthday theme turns the museum into part of the adventure. Children design a map, decorate a small treasure chest, and follow a pirate-themed gallery hunt.
  • A Magical Adventure. Young witches and wizards create an owl companion and a wand, then search the galleries for clues that lead them to works of art.

If your child has a different idea in mind, custom themes and art projects are also available starting at $50, with the final cost depending on the theme and materials. Let us know what your child is interested in when you inquire, and we can talk through the possibilities.

Because our exhibitions change throughout the year, the exact works your group sees may vary. That’s part of what makes each party a little different.

What Ages Are Our Birthday Parties For?

Our birthday parties are designed for children ages 4 and up. Activities are led by a museum instructor and are built to keep children involved through artmaking, conversation, and a guided gallery experience.

If your guest list includes a wide range of ages, share that with us when you book. Knowing the ages in advance helps our team guide you toward a theme that will work well for the group.

For younger children who are not quite ready for a birthday party program, Art Adventures is another way to experience the museum together. Offered on select Fridays, the program is recommended for ages 2-10 and pairs hands-on artmaking with a gallery visit for children and their favorite grown-up.

How Much Do Our Birthday Parties Cost?

Birthday parties are $430 for non-members and $390 for members. Both rates include up to 15 children, and each additional child is $10.

For a full group of 15 children, that works out to about $28.67 per child at the non-member rate or $26 per child at the member rate. Those figures include the instructor, studio classroom, gallery experience, art activities, and project materials.

A 50% deposit is required to reserve your date, with the remaining balance due five business days before the event. We accept cash, checks, and major credit cards.

If you’ve already been considering becoming a member, it may be worth joining before you reserve. A Dual/Family Membership is currently $100 and includes benefits for two adults and up to four children, including year-round museum admission and discounts on education programs. Members also save $40 on the birthday party package.

What to Expect on Party Day

Once your group arrives, check in at the Visitor Information Services desk and let the team know you’re here for a birthday party. From there, you’ll be directed to Studio III.

The museum instructor leads the creative portion of the celebration, including the gallery experience and hands-on art activity. The theme you choose gives the party its structure, so children aren’t simply walking through the museum on their own; they’re looking, searching, making, and responding to art along the way.

Birthday cake and beverages stay out of the galleries. Families bring the cake, candles, beverages, and serving supplies, while our team handles the program setup and cleanup. If you have questions about timing, decorations, additional food, or anything else you’d like to bring, ask when you reserve so we can help you plan for the space.

Photography is welcome for personal use in most galleries, but flash photography is not permitted. Some exhibitions may also have their own photography restrictions, so follow the signage and your instructor’s guidance during the gallery portion of the party.

What Should You Bring?

We provide the creative part of the party; you bring the birthday essentials. Plan to bring:

  • The guest of honor and party guests
  • Birthday cake and candles
  • Beverages (no alcohol)
  • Paper plates, forks, cups, and napkins
  • Optional decorations
  • At least one adult to host and help

If you want to bring food beyond the items listed above, or you’re planning decorations that require special setup, check with us when you book. That way, you can plan around the studio and museum policies before party day.

Do Parents Need to Stay?

At least one adult from the birthday family needs to stay for the full party to host and help. The museum instructor leads the activities, but the party still needs an adult host from your group.

If you’re planning to invite other parents to stay, or you would prefer a drop-off format for some guests, include that in your booking conversation. We can help you understand what will work best for your group and the studio space.

How to Book Your Birthday Party

We recommend reserving at least one month in advance, and earlier is always helpful if you have a specific date in mind.

To get started, contact Molly Lawson, Associate Curator for Community Engagement, at mlawson@omart.org or 407.896.4231 ext. 282. You can also submit an inquiry through our Birthday Parties page.

Before you reach out, it helps to have a few details ready: your preferred date or a couple of possible dates, the approximate number and ages of the children, and the theme you’re most interested in. If you aren’t sure about the theme yet, that’s fine too – tell us a little about what your child enjoys, and we’ll help you explore the options.

A 50% deposit secures the reservation once your date is confirmed. The remaining balance is due five business days before the party.

Why Choose an Art Birthday Party in Orlando?

There are plenty of kids’ birthday party venues in Orlando, but a museum party offers something different: the activity and the setting work together. Children aren’t just handed a craft to complete. They get to look at real works of art, talk about what they notice, and carry those ideas into something they create themselves.

For families who want a celebration centered on creativity, our birthday parties give the group a shared experience without requiring parents to build the activity from scratch. The instructor, art materials, studio, and gallery experience are all part of the package.

It’s also an indoor celebration, which makes planning a little easier in Central Florida. The studio and gallery portions of the party take place inside the museum, so the creative part of the day doesn’t depend on the weather.
