Winter Art Camp 2018-19

Join us for a fun-filled experience of visual exploration! Discover the artwork of Nick Cave by exploring the colors, sounds, shapes, and textures in Nick Cave: Feat. Then, focus on the collection of unique angels by Miami artist, Purvis Young. Be inspired by both artists to create artwork using found objects, scraps, cardboard, paint, and more!

Winter Art Camp – Grades 1-4

December 21: Angels Around Us
Create your own artistic angels using wood, boards, buttons, beads, paint, pipe cleaners, and more! Learn how to draw, paint, and make both 2D and 3D masterpieces. Angels large and small, we will explore them all!

December 26: The Art of Nick Cave
Explore the work of artist Nick Cave by creating assemblage art using found objects combined with textile techniques such as, sewing, weaving, and dyeing. Learn how science and art can be used together to create extraordinary masterpieces!

December 27: Soundsuit Creation Nation!
Create your own Soundsuit using materials that make noise with movement! This day of camp will be filled with lots of creativity, music, movement, puppet shows, and a parade in the galleries!

December 28: Happy New Year!
Celebrate your creativity and the artwork at OMA! Enjoy one of the last days of the year sketching, painting, drawing, making clay creations, and more!! You’ll be ready to ring in the New Year with your masterpieces!

January 2: Artsy Angels
Create vibrant artsy angels using pencils and paints! Explore the color wheel and learn about the elements of art, as you make larger than life artwork in the style of Florida artist Purvis Young.

January 3: Art Books
Learn simple bookbinding techniques, as well as storytelling tips, to create a portable book. Draw, paint, and print wonderful works of art to fill up the pages of your newly created art book!

January 4: Creative Builders!
Inspired by OMA’s architecture and sculptures in and around the Museum, delve into construction and narrative possibilities using a variety of materials for building both large and small. Learn to use different media while painting, drawing, designing, building, and installing. Our goal will be to have as much fun as possible!

Winter Art Camp – Grades 5-8

December 21: Nick Cave featuring YOU!
Create artwork inspired by Nick Cave! Learn how to develop a character that represents you by only designing your personality, not your physical appearance. Create “sound puppets” to showcase characters whose emotions are literally at our fingertips!

December 26: Animals Gone Wild
Discover the animals of OMA! Venture into Nick Cave’s Architectural Forest to explore the hidden creatures. Create your own spirit animal, wild beast, and magical being, while also learning about animals associated with cultural origin stories.

December 27: Assemblage Art
Explore the work of artist Nick Cave by creating assemblage art using found objects combined with textile techniques such as, sewing, weaving, and dyeing. Learn how science and art can be used together to create extraordinary masterpieces!

December 28: Artistic Angels

January 2: The Art of the Poster
Have you ever tried to express something to someone without using words? Design poster art with messages only revealed using colors, symbols, and various materials. Learn how to make your voice heard without even making a sound!

January 3: Drawing Fundamentals
Learn basic drawing skills as you work in graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, ink, and marker. Explore contour drawing, shading, and the use of perspective, as well as how to draw a self-portrait.

January 4: Modern Masters
Pay tribute to the rock stars of modern art by creating your own visionary masterpieces. From Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art, you’ll learn to paint, print, and draw like a true master.

Daily Rate:
$45; $40 for Members

Extended Day:
Early drop off (beginning at 8:00am): $5 per child, per day Late pick up (until 5:15pm): $5 per child, per day (an additional $1 per minute charge will be incurred for pick up later than 5:15pm).

Refunds:
Refunds are given less a $25 handling fee. Written notice two weeks prior to the class is required. No refunds are made after the classes have started.
