Astronomy & Art

What is the relationship between art and astronomy? This talk will touch on several overlaps between the two, including how artists of the past have depicted astronomical events, and how more modern artists have taken advantage of wonderful advances in astronomical discovery to inform their work.

Dr. Fernandez received his Ph.D. in Astronomy from University of Maryland, College Park, in 1999. His research focuses on the physical and compositional properties of comets and asteroids. He was a SIRTF/Spitzer Fellow at the University of Hawaii prior to joining the faculty at UCF in 2005, where he is currently an Associate Professor of Physics and the Observatory Director.
