This exhibition presents a selection of the Orlando Museum of Art’s extensive collection, honoring long-term loans, acquisitions and gifts that helped shape the institution’s hundred-year-old identity and legacy. The works, presented in a chronological order, span nearly two hundred years, from 1840 to today, and therefore bear witness to key developments in—primarily—American art from the colonial period to the present. In doing so, the exhibition conveys not only the story of artistic accomplishments, but also stories of the country’s history and culture. The exhibition also highlights the museum’s history by showcasing works that entered it at various points during its 100-year existence, offering insight into the evolving tastes and values of the institution and its community.
