Collector, lender and museum supporter Norma Canelas Roth (1944-2022) studied painting at the University of South Florida after graduating from Rollins College with a BFA. The style of her paintings is closely related to those of Miriam Shapiro (a longtime friend) and other artists of the Pattern and Decoration Movement who were prominent in the 1970s and 80s.  Norma and her husband William Roth have been involved with the Orlando Museum of Art since 1983 when OMA organized the exhibition Pattern and Decoration Works from their collection. During the decades that followed, they also gifted hundreds of artworks and lent extensively to the OMA. This exhibition, however, will focus on Norma the artist, in the first exhibition of her own work ever, posthumously celebrating her talent and generous spirit in a plethora of vibrantly textured mixed media paintings.
